My Toile for CDP!

Yesterday we had the first full practical lesson we’ve had in a while to start making the toile for our final design for the Manifesto project. I found the lesson was really beneficial to me as I really got stuck into the beginnings of making my toile. It reminded me of many of the things we'd learnt in the first term and it was good to put them into practise. I was very fortunate that the lesson seemed to be quite quiet so we had plenty of help from the tutors. I spoke to Jane, our main tutor for construction, who helped me to seriously think about how my dress would be put together in the best way.

I set about drawing out the style lines of my design onto a mannequin to get an idea of proportions and how it would look on the figure. This really helped me to visualise my design and once deciding to use a hip block to use as a template, I set about transferring the style lines and measurements to a pattern block.

I have drawn out a number of draft pattern pieces, initially specifically concentrating on the size and orientation of the panels. My next step is to lengthen the pattern and work on the bottom shapes.

I'm really enjoying this practical part of the project although I'm aware we don't have a massive amount of time to complete the toile before our toile review. This can be a good thing though as it encourages hard work! :-)
